If you don't have a cycle to track or if it is inconsistent, you can use the Moon phases as an "Anchor" to give your body an external framework to sync to. Women are Lunar by nature and follow the same 28-day cycle as the Moon whereas men are Solar and follow the same 24-hour cycle as the Sun. Basically, this means while a man's hormones peak every 24 hours, yours peak every 28 days.
Current understandings theorize we are biologically tuned to ovulate with the Full Moon and bleed on the New Moon. Because of the higher light, our ancestors would have potentially been more active and likely used this time to do "fun" activities and or even hold ceremonies under the light of the full moon. If a woman's ovulation coincided with the full moon, this provides plenty of “prime baby-making time”.
In my own experience the more you develop a relationship with the Moon and her phases, the more tuned into her your body becomes, and before very long at all, the two cycles synchronize.
This is why tracking your cycle and knowing your own personal rhythm is so important. You will start to notice the ebb and flow of energy and where it is consistent even if it doesn't look like an average 28 day cycle at first.
