The Truth of Authentic Living
There's a lot of hype around the word "authenticity".
Being your most authentic online, being authentic in relationships...but most people have no idea what authenticity actually means because they don't even know who they are or what the authentic version of them is.
Authenticity is acknowledging and aligning with your truth.
Most women I connect with have never felt permission to truly be authentic. They tell me of the longing they have to be held and supported in a world of "strong, independent women".
They tell me how they have felt so confused by the way they feel outgoing and inspired one day and then more of a homebody the next so they simply push through and align with the go-getter as much as their body allows.
They tell me how they have to take heavy medications to function during their periods so they fit in with a ever-demanding work culture.
They share how they don't know how to express their desires with their partners so they settle for a half-hearted relationship when they yearn for something more.
Is this authenticity?
Is it authentic to disconnect from our bodies and numb its messages through alcohol, medication and doom scrolling?
Is it authentic to silence our naturally cyclical nature to fit into an obsessive hustle?
Is it authentic to abandon boundaries and allow in so much external input we couldn't possibly weed out our truths from the overwhelming data of the outside world?
We don't know our bodies, or the wisdom it shares.
We've forgotten the rituals of the women in generations before us.
We don't lean in to our needs because we align with some other person's definition of success and productivity.
How can you be sure you are authentically you when you shut down every expression of it?
Are you authentically living from the fluctuating energy of your body?
Are you authentically expressing yourself?
Put simply, authenticity means you're true to your own personality, values, and spirit, regardless of the pressure that you're under to act otherwise. You're not being swayed by the media's constant pressure to be a "boss babe". You're creating a business fueled with authenticity by laying a foundation that aligned with your deepest core values and not someone else's version of the "right" way to create a business.
Are you truly living authentically?
